Muted Moroccan

Muted Moroccan

In 2015, I was honored to receive the highest award in the North American kitchen and bath competition through the National Kitchen & Bath Association, for this highly customized and unique kitchen design.

It’s very rare that a designer is offered the opportunity to design something so completely unique.  It’s even more rare to have that perfect client who trusts you implicitly!

My clients needs for this space were simple:  create a family-oriented space that would inspire culinary creativity, while staying in tune with the family’s love of travel.  With this minimal direction I was off and running.

I based my entire design on this incredible antique Moroccan door the homeowners picked up when last they visited Marrakesh!  Not only was this an incredible piece for my own inspiration, it was also an homage to my mother’s birthplace.  She is as French as you can get, but born and raised in Meknes, Morocco!

Just look at all the rich detail, texture and color this door exudes.  Once I saw this, I knew we had to repeat this motif.  So I did! Of course, I never do things in a traditional manner, so I put a spin on the Moorish arch and repeated in several ways and on several planes.  See if you can spot them!

I hope you enjoy looking through these photos as much as I enjoyed creating this kitchen!  Just remember, great design incorporates color, texture and function according to the beholders’ eye!
